Black
Pete Marine, the Australian east coast agents for Mold Craft
Lures, also manufacture Mold Craft Squirt Squid, Little Hooker,
Tuff Hoo and Little Bird daisy chains.
These
remarkable soft plastic lures create a phenomenal amount of
surface splash and commotion, and raise tuna and marlin like
no other teaser combination.
The
daisy chains can be run singly off flatlines, teaser rods
or bridge teasers, but they definitely produce their best
work when swum together off a Black Pete Spreader Bar.
The
Black Pete Spreader Bar is 100 centimetres wide, made of spring
stainless steel and has three 126 pound heavy-duty swivels
to stop the daisy chains twisting up.
The
bar is also braced with 300 pound mono to prevent it digging
in in big seas, or being pulled out of shape by an over-enthusiastic
tuna or marlin.
It's
also possible to hang skipping mullet, garfish and slimy mackerel
from it, although the fish-raising attributes of the aforementioned
Mold Craft products mean natural bait isn't really necessary
and they tend to wash out pretty quickly when towed at high
speed.
Tuna
in particular, are adept at picking off the tail-end-Charlie
of a spreader bar setup, so if you wish to run a hooked lure
from one, leave the end of the centre daisy chain unadorned
and crimp a loop at the end. Rubber-band a similar lure as
the rest of the daisy chain off it, or use an Aftco Roller
Troller as a breakaway device.
Black
Pete Marine also makes a handy spreader bar pouch for storing
rigged spreader bars in.
Made
from breathable, open-weave nylon mesh with a clear vinyl
front, air can still circulate within the pouch to prevent
corrosion of metal parts.
