Pliers
and Scales
Salt
water and ordinary steel tools just don't get on, as the minute
they come into contact with the corrosive properties of salt
their days of effective use are numbered.
Stainless
steel and brass are the only materials for tools used in saltwater
fishing, and that's what the superlative Manley range of fishing
tools are made from.
The
Manley seven inch mono nippers are great for cutting nylon
monofilament of any breaking strain, but really shine at trimming
lure skirts, while the eight inch long nose pliers are perfect
for removing hooks from deeply-hooked fish and performing
any one of a number of useful jobs when out on the water.
The
61/2 inch spring-loaded Manley pliers
are a must-have for any serious bluewater fisho, especially
those working with heavy single-strand wire. There
are two versions available; the first has black oxide cutting
edges, while the second has been given a special Teflon coating.
Both
have super sharp cutting blades on the side, and can snip
through #040 wire or 600 pound mono with ease. Rubberised
handles give extra grip, and the pliers come with or without
a belt pouch.
Manley
also manufacture two excellent sets of scales. Made from marine
brass with stainless steel fittings, they can weigh up to
12.5 kilos and 25 kilos respectively and are widely regarded
as the most robust and accurate spring scales on the market.
They also feature a comfortable handle and a tell-tale nylon
collar on the shaft to indicate the heaviest weight recorded.
Manley
scales also weigh in pounds, and are infinitely adjustable
to counteract the weight of weighing slings and landing nets.
Manley
also have a very useful pliers holster in their range. Made
of hard wearing seatbelt-type webbing with a stainless steel
clip that can attach it to a belt or boat fitting, it also
features a lock-down tab to prevent the tool from being accidentally
jolted free.
